Eventing News- Dec 2011
12/18/11 Seems several NAJYRC eventing vets are either selling their horses or moving up to Advanced… Also a bit about the USEA Young Rider Forum & USEF rule changes (who doesn’t love them!)
(from Mikaela K)
Gossip:
I’ve noticed that many 2** riders from last year’s NAJYRC’s are planning or already have moved up to Adv., selling their horses or both. Lizzie Snow’s 2*(former four star) horse, Coal Creek, is for sale (http://eventingnation.com/sporthorsenation/2011/12/offered-for-sale-coal-creek.html). Levi Scovil’s 2*(also has run Adv.) horse, Laugh out Loud is for sale.(http://eventingnation.com/sporthorsenation/2011/12/2-miles-great-yr-horse.html) Imogen De Lavis’s Rock Point Road(run one adv.) is also for sale. (http://tennantsporthorses.com/horses-for-sale/) This is a good time to buy, there are tons of advanced horses for sale as well as good NAJYRC campaigners and we will see this come out at next year’s young riders with lots of new faces and partnerships. Some new partnerships already forming is Alyssa Phillips and Jessica Phoenix’s Horse Exploring with whom she went to the Pan American Games on and won a team silver medal on. They have already qualified for next year at the Galway Downs 1* as well have many in the Fall 1 & 2** championships and non championships.
News:
At the annual USEA meeting there was a young rider forum. Here are some of the things that came out of it. NAJYRC’s moved a week early to stop confliction with Olympics however this causes major problems with Rebecca Farms ht which has to get pushed back a week to avoid it being on the same weekend but then it is on the same weekend at Stuart ht which is already lacking entries due to the economy and they cannot move the date because the land that Stuart runs on is owned by 5 people so it’s hard to get everyone to agree. So they might petition to have the date changed once again. One major thing is we don’t have to share Horse Park with hunter show but instead breyer fest unlike last year with the craziness of pony club to go along with it. No new disciplines are being added so logo will remain the same. It should more than likely stay at the horse park. More education talks and autograph sessions will be given and received by the young riders this year. VAHT has added a fall one star to help with people qualifying for 2013 and beyond (yay!).They also wanted to remind everyone about the mentorship program!! Can’t say enough good things about it!!
USEA rule changes
“The first proposal discussed is changing the rule on false starts which currently penalizes a rider who leaves the box early with five penalty points added to their score. The new rule does away with this penalty. The rider must still be “under control of the starter.”A professional scorer stated that this rule will reduce result delays and errors in scoring.”(USEA) “Riders may have a whip handed to them by a fence judge or bystander along with headgear or spectacles. Therefore, the word “whip” will be added back to the rule’s wording.”(USEA)(This used to be considered unauthorized assistance). Next “the top rail of a stadium fence must be constructed with solid timber poles. This no longer allows the use of hollow PVC pipes as jump rails.”(USEA) The Drug and Med fee went up a dollar but only fee to go up in past 12 years even in the bad economy. There is a new drug rule-therapeutic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAID’s) allowing only one now instead of two examples are exactly what it states anti inflammatory drugs(bute and such) (people also need to be careful and very closely read what is allowed and not allowed drug and lineament and such wise). The one fall equals elimination rule is still being discussed and is very complex and confusing but when they reconvene and talk but you will be the first one to know if they come up with any conclusions.

I was introduced to eventing at a young age and its been history ever since..
Im curently in between horses but still riding as much as I can in order to better my riding. I love the sport and all aspects about it. My fuure goals are to compete at young riders, recieve m bronze medal in dressage and eventually I would love to own and run my own business and ride for a living. for right now I’m just trying to balance being a teenager, being a junior in school, and my equestrian dream but as of right now I feel like I’m living the dream.
